| T2497. After some years of neglect the Castlefield Basin has become a popular area to live in. Many of the warehouses have been converted into apartments or office space. The Rochdale Canal is now once again part of the canal network which allows pleasure craft to travel through Manchester and then on into Yorkshire from Runcorn. The footbridge on the right of the photograph is the Merchants Footbridge. It was completed in 1995 to a design by consulting engineers Whitby & Bird.
