Printout from Bridging the Years:

Royal Barge Moored on North Bank of Bridgewater Canal, Worsley

Royal Barge Moored on North Bank of Bridgewater Canal, Worsley

T1658. Queen Victoria visited the Worsley in October 1851, staying at Worsley New Hall, home of the Earl of Ellesmere. The Earl had a barge specially constructed for the visit, which became known as the Royal Barge. As is evident from this photograph, it was an elegant craft, and was stored in a boat house in Worsley, a building that still exists today. Here we can see the Barge moored near to Worsley New Hall, which can be seen in the distance.
