Contractors railway entering shallow tunnel in Harrow, Middlesex.

Contractors railway entering shallow tunnel in Harrow, Middlesex.

L3424. Navvies take a break from work to pose for Newton's lens. Many hold picks used in excavation of the cutting, which is thought to be located in Harrow, Middlesex. Soil and rubble resulting from their efforts is towed away on a tipping wagon, seen here entering the mouth of a tunnel on single-tracked contractors railway. The structure has a brick built facade and is flanked by two 'blind arches.'
