14XX class 0-4-2T, No. 1437 at Princes Risborough

L3178. This photograph, taken on 2nd July 1955, shows former Great Western Railway 14XX class 0-4-2T, No. 1437. Having entered the station at Princes Risborough on the Great Western & Great Central joint line and disembarked the passengers, the engine has been moved to the end of the platform to take on water - NOTE: the fireman standing on top of the loco where he would put the bag in and out of the tank. This type of locomotives was popular for light, branch line work and, after studying the timetables for the period, Basil Coles (photographer) suggests that she had probably just worked the 7.15pm train from Oxford.
