Metropolitan platform at Baker Street Underground station

Metropolitan platform at Baker Street Underground station

L2658. Photographed in 1991 from the same viewpoint as a painting of 1863, these are the refurbished Metropolitan line platforms at Baker Street Underground station. To mark the 120th anniversary of the opening of the world's first urban underground railway, on which Baker Street was one of seven original stations, the platforms were restored to something like their original appearance. Replica furniture and lighting that mimics daylight help to recreate the nineteenth century atmosphere.
