Ventilation shaft in Boundary Road tunnel, London

L2356. A tunnel ventilation shaft, photographed halfway between Boundary Road and Marlborough Place, London. Built between 1894-99 by J.T. Firbank, this section of the Line (Contract No.7) ran from West Hampstead to the Great Central terminus at Marylebone. Note the undulating line of narrow gauge contractor's railway laid over a length of brick vaulting.
