The Great Central junction at Woodford, Northamptonshire

The Great Central junction at Woodford, Northamptonshire

L2341. Photographed looking north around 1900, this short spur off the London Extension at Woodford went on to join the Stratford & Midland Junction railway before entering Byfield. Just visible beyond the array of semaphore signals is Woodford station, together with its warehouse, sidings and goods yard. Woodford itself was a relatively small location to host such considerable railway facilities, and the Great Central's presence turned a once sleepy Midlands village into a thriving railway community.
