Constructing the girder bridge and station at Ruddington

Constructing the girder bridge and station at Ruddington

L2273. This interesting scene was captured during the construction of the Great Central station at Ruddington, Nottinghamshire. When operational, passengers would access the station via a staircase leading down from the girder overbridge. In common with almost every other station on the Last Main Line, Ruddington was built to an island design, whereby the tracks passed either side of a single platform. Note the contrast between the main line permanent way on the right, and the contractor's temporary rails on the left.
