Tipping wagons at the north end of Canfield Place tunnel, London

L1580. Tipping wagons at the north end of Canfield Place tunnel, circa 1897. Running under Canfield Gardens, this was the Line's first tunnel into London. Note the tracks in the foreground: it is unusual for chairs to be fitted to contractor's temporary rails. This section of the Last Main Line (Contract No.7 London) was built by J.T. Firbank of London Bridge.
