Construction of a three arch overbridge, Birstall, Leicester

L1567. Navvies at work constructing a three arch occupation overbridge, the 'first south of Birstall to Thurcaston Road' (S.W.A. Newton's notes). The photograph was taken around 1897, and shows the bridge centrings over which the arches were built. These timber frames would then later be removed. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.2 Leake to Aylestone).
