L1112. A brick arch underbridge with curved wing walls located near Helmdon in Northamptonshire. This occupation bridge was built as part of Contract No. 5 (constructed by Walter Scott & Co. of Newcastle-upon-Tyne). The bridge traverses a high embankment, resulting in a tunnel effect. At the time of the photograph, the bridge was fully completed and railway construction workers can be seen working on the track above. Access to the bridge is via a single 6-bar farm gate and along a short track bordered on both sides by a large wooden fence. | |
