Purchase ledger for the London Extension

Purchase ledger for the London Extension

Back to 1893   Back to Timeline

L2754. The front cover of the purchase ledger that contains details of the land that was bought by the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway (later Great Central Railway) for their London Extension. The company certainly seems to have paid handsomely for its right to pass through people's property. For instance, William Paget of Normanton-on-Soar recieved £2300 for seven acres of land. Despite its substantial size, the ledger does in fact only contain details of those purchases made from Annesley to Basford and Wilford to Leicester.
