Back to 1920   Back to Timeline

L2607. 4-4-4T Metropolitan H-Class locomotive No. 103. A particularly graceful and well-proportioned engine, the H-Class was designed by Charles Jones (Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Metropolitan Railway from 1906-1923) to be a fast tank loco for use on passenger duties. Its versatility did however mean that it was also later engaged in freight work. No. 103 (works no. 4088) was the first of the eight H-Class locos, all of them being built by Kerr, Stuart & Co. in 1920.
