T2593. This mug was produced to commemorate the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894. One side is decorated with a portrait of Daniel Adamson, the first Chairman of the Manchester Ship Canal Company, and is inscribed ' Daniel Adamson Esq, J.P C.E Chief Promoter of the Manchester Ship Canal'. The other, shown here, depicts a fully rigged steam ship. Between the two main images are the words 'Success to the Manchester Ship Canal'. The handle is decorated with a rope work pattern.
