T2386. Prior to the revival of interest in canals, with many now used as a recreational resource, a great number became nothing more than dumping grounds for all kinds of unwanted rubbish. This can be clearly seen in this photograph of the drained Rochdale Canal in Manchester. In the distance through the arch can be seen the entrance of the canal at Castlefield. The barge on the left of the photograph has the name plates Christine and Albert painted on them.
