Belgrave & Birstall Station, Leicester

L2080. Photographed looking north in June 1977, this is the disused station at Belgrave & Birstall. There is no sign of the tracks that once carried express locomotives either side of the platform; doubtless they had been lifted and sold soon after the Line's closure in 1969. Although the platform and buildings have also since been demolished, this site is now the terminus of the current Great Central Railway's preserved line. Note the retaining wall for the station's signal cabin which is visible in the foreground.
