| G2170. G-ALRX was swamped by the incoming tide and totally wrecked by salt water. In the River Severn the tidal flow approaches 8 knots and the rise and fall is in excess of 30 feet. Despite heroic rescue attempts by the army, 501 Squadron R Aux AF, local haulage firms and emergency services, the aircraft had to be a 'write-off'. Unfortunately the rescuers all inadvertently played a role in her eventual downfall, because of the abnormal stresses imposed on the airframe when moving her up the River bank. | |
